The Best Ways to Care for and Maintain Your Wooden Furniture

Posted on June 20, 2024April 30, 2025 by TechBrain

No better material can duplicate the look of wood giving homes a warm and friendly feel as well as richness. Nonetheless, caution has to be taken when using the furniture because failure to do so will limit its shine and durability. Here are some of the most effective tips that you can consider when you want to add some value to wooden furniture and also make your home look beautiful.

Regular Cleaning

It is important to clean your wooden furniture daily to maintain accurate beauty and longevity of the furniture. Wipe gently on the furniture at least once a week; this will reduce the accumulation of dirt on the furniture.- For a deeper cleanse, one needs to use a wet cloth and then a dry one as this will cause detrimental effects to the set. Do not use abrasive soaps, detergents, or other harsh cleaning agents as this may ruin the finish and strip the wood surface of its natural oils.

Avoid Direct Sunlight

The second problem linked to direct sunlight is that it could eventually lead to fading, cracking, or warping of the wood. As a result, if you own wooden furniture, do not place it next to the windows, or if it is inevitable, make sure to minimize its exposure to sunlight using curtains and blinds.

This is especially important when buying items such as your new mid century bathroom vanity that may be placed near a window. This way you will be safeguarding the furniture from fading out or getting damaged due to exposure to the sun.

Use Protective Covers

Some protective covers can serve to protect your wooden furniture from scratches or spilling of food and drinks. Coasters, placemats, and especially tablecloths are ideal in that they prevent the surfaces of dining tables from getting stained or burnt with heat marks.

For items such as reclining chairs, it is advised to use arm covers or even get throws that will cover the wooden surface to prevent it from coming into contact with skin and thereby getting in contact with the oils and dirt on our skin including our clothes. Even though it might sound a bit gruesome, these few steps can go a long way in prolonging the lifespan of wooden furniture.

Control Humidity Levels

It also has a weakness to humidity, which ends up affecting its expansion or contraction in the wrong way leading to the formation of cracks in the wooden surface and warping. Decoration and furnishing: Use indoor humidity control of between 40-45% to ensure the longevity of your wooden furniture. A humidifier during the winter and a dehumidifier during the summer will assist you in regulating the levels of humidity indoors space.

Apply Furniture Polish

It is recommended that wooden furniture should be polished every three or six months so that it can gain its shiny surface again and its protection from cracking. Select a good polish material appropriate to the kind of finish on the furniture you are trying to polish.

After that, the polish should be applied on the fur using a soft cloth and ensuring that it is in line with the grain of the wood so that it does not produce streaky lines. Do not over-clean as this may cause the surface to blend in due to excessive buildup of polish.
