One wise woman said once that women rule the world. It’s Mrs. Carter – the one and only Beyonce. You know what else? She was right. We invented the dishwasher, for crying out loud. What would men be without us?
Women who stand up for and care for other women are among the strongest. The following list of women-invented products proves we are powerful in social life, business and as entrepreneurs.
1. Makeup for all skin tones
It’s annoying to think that Rihanna, not only is an international pop star but she also has a makeup line called Fenty Beauty. Pick one thing and excel at it! Let’s let it go this time, since her foundation line has 40 different shades that allow all women to experience Ri-Ri’s glam.
2. Oprah’s approved underwear
Spanx has literally supported women for over 18 years. These simple, yet brilliant items were created with the idea that underwear should be as comfortable and flattering to wear as outerwear. They have been a global hit. Sara Blakely, the inventor of these products, is now one of the youngest female self-made billionaires in history. Oprah and Michelle Obama both gave them their seal of approval. We tried them and can attest that they are fabulous.
3. Delivered to your doorstep, organic tampons
Women are the experts on women. Lola Tampons are 100% natural tampons delivered to your home every month by Jordana Kier & Alexandra Friedman. They know women do not want pesticides in their bodies. Lola’s tampons contain no synthetic fibers or dyes. They are only made from organic cotton. Are they worth the price? Sara, our writer, tested the products and found them to be just as effective and comfortable as other brands. The price is a bit higher (at $10 per 18-pack compared to under $5 for Tampax), however, the order process is simple and the eco-friendly lifestyle changes make them worth it.
4. Closet of your dreams
Rent the Runway was founded by Jennifer Hyman and Jennifer Fleiss in 2009 to provide a rental service of designer dresses and accessories. Rent the Runway Unlimited allows members to rent items such as dresses, everyday clothing, bags, and home decor. They can also subscribe to the monthly membership to rent certain amounts of items on a rotating basis. Sam, our shopping expert, has been a Unlimited member for the past four years. She loves it.
5. Subscribe to a colorful razor
Billie Razors. The internet is awash with these babies, and it’s not hard to see why. You can order these colorful razors whenever you need a new one. Jess from our lifestyle column, found that they were very effective, and her skin was left silky smooth. She was also blown away by their mission. Billie is proud to celebrate “our choice of being shaggy, or smooth, or anything in-between.” The company also takes a stand for the pink tax, which charges women more money on certain products and services. Billie, a brand that puts women first, makes sure all of its products are vegan, gluten-free, and non-GMO. This is great for those with sensitive skin.
6. High-quality, stylish workout clothing
It’s hard to get into your exercise clothes. The clothes you wear can represent the amount of energy that you are about to exert. Fabletics allows you to sweat and exhaust yourself while wearing your workout clothing. Fabletics offers a subscription service for workout clothing that lets you choose high-quality, stylish workout apparel in the comfort of your own home. Rachel, our audience development manager tried it out and said the outfits were so stylish that they inspired her to work out harder than she ever had before. She also loves that the brand was founded by Kate Hudson, an actress she is obsessed with. But, this is not important. The clothes are very durable and come in many different colors and styles. Also, the subscription is easy to follow and allows you to pause at any time.
7. Our favorite makeup tool
The tiny tool is a hit all over the world, and with good reason. The beautyblender was invented by a professional make-up artist to allow users to apply their makeup like pros, without weird streaks or marks. One Amazon reviewer put it so well: “I finally bought it and instantly regretted ever having doubted those girls on YouTube that never stopped talking about this.” Yep, it’s real.
8. A ubiquitous millennial beauty brand
Glossier is the makeup brand that has been heard around the globe. Emily Weiss founded the brand after taking her beauty blog on Instagram. She built a multi-billion dollar business. It is known for its no-makeup makeup and low-effort skincare that makes your skin feel healthy and not just covered. Two of their products are particularly popular: the Milky Jelly Cleanser and Boy Brow. Glossier is a favorite of our staff, and we are always eager to try out new products.
9. Future of feminine hygiene
Everyone who has used feminine hygiene products knows they can be expensive, are not environmentally friendly, and, depending on the body type, you need to replace them constantly throughout the day. The DivaCup is an environmentally friendly period product that does not leak for 12 hours. Why is the name DivaCup? The name Diva was inspired by the Italian word diva which originally described a female goddess, a woman with a talent similar to that of gods. It’s great to see a company who values women so highly that they named it after our power.
10. Save Grace for Thigh Chafing
Chub rub is painful. Dresses are a favorite of curvier women, but the pain of thigh chafing is not worth it. Bandelettes was created by two women who decided they had enough thigh chafing. They wanted to end it in a stylish manner. They want to create “comfortable and sexy underwear that is both beautiful and practical – to embrace curves and boost self-confidence”. The fabric will rub against your thighs instead of the skin when you pull up the Bandelettes. Melissa, our video producer, tried them out and found they reduced friction between her legs and were worth it.
